Secure360°TM Conference Volunteers Guidelines
The Upper Midwest Security Alliance (UMSA) is a volunteer run organization. Our success depends greatly on the input, skills and commitment of our volunteers.
Volunteering is a great opportunity for individuals to give back to the security community, interact with industry peers, and gain new experiences and perspectives that benefit them in their professional and personal development.
We respect and encourage the varied ideas, approaches and work that volunteers contribute to UMSA. In return, we expect that our volunteers respect the purposes and goals of UMSA and ask that volunteers supporting UMSA and the Secure360°TM Conference agree to the following:
1. Volunteers are often primary representatives of our organization and by their actions set the tone for the organization and conference. As such, they must conduct themselves ethically, exhibiting the high professional standards of the organization in their actions and work on behalf of UMSA.
2. Volunteers will refrain from activities that might constitute a conflict of interest, including engaging in sales activities, solicitation, personnel recruiting, distributing materials without approval, or conducting any other activity contrary to the purpose of the organization.
3. Volunteers provide invaluable public relations and marketing for UMSA and Secure360°TM in their interactions with others. However, volunteers do not officially speak for the organization or conference unless explicitly authorized.
4. Information available to volunteers is to be used in the service of UMSA. It will not be used for personal gain, shared with other organizations or individuals, or otherwise used or distributed in ways not intended or authorized by UMSA.
5. Volunteers will abide by their commitments and do their best, within reasonable bounds of time, energy and knowledge, to complete tasks they willingly agree to. Volunteers should notify the appropriate volunteer manager or organizational official as soon as they are concerned about or aware that they will be unable to fulfill their responsibilities or complete tasks to which they have been assigned.
6. Volunteers will represent the organization, conference and fellow volunteers in a professional, positive and respectful manner in all written and verbal communication. Feedback or criticism is welcomed, but will be constructively directed to board members with the sole intent to improve the organization or event(s).
In recognition of the significant commitment of time and effort our volunteers contribute, UMSA may offer discounts or other perks commensurate with the volunteer role. Should a volunteer, in the view of the UMSA board, not materially fulfill their responsibilities, the board reserves the right to withdraw any offer(s).
By entering into the volunteer database and/or executing material work on behalf of UMSA, you agree to adhere to these guidelines.
