    Every year, the Secure 360°™ conference is what our members makes of it.

    Attendees from the previous year rate the sessions they attended, the speakers they heard, and myriad other specifics about their Secure360°™ experience. These ratings are used as a basis for the sessions that were scheduled, the speakers who were selected to speak, and the many details of how the conference works the next year. As soon as the last year's conference ends, planning begins for the next.

    As May continues to draw closer, our team is hard at work preparing to bring you our best conference to date! This month, we have news of our scholarship essay competition, highlight two new conference partners, a discussion on Advanced Persistent Threats, as well as event updates from our partners. First, however, there are a few conference updates we'd like to highlight.

  • The APT Threat - Are You Aware?

    In the wake of the recent Google attack, many news and blog sites have been awash in discussions on APT threats.  But just what is 'APT'? Is it new? Why does it concern us?

    APT, or Advanced Persistent Threat, is a term most often used to refer to a particular breed of well-funded, knowledgeable threat agents.  APT's seek to gain stealthy access to their targets for specific objectives not involving notoriety or immediate financial gain.  Several key items set them aside from other threats:

    The Upper Midwest Security Association (UMSA) is excited to welcome two additional affiliate organizations to our ranks.  Both the ASIS Minnesota Chapter and TCPN have been involved with Secure360 in past years in different capacities, This year, we are pleased to announce that ASIS Minnesota will be an affiliate organization and TCPN will be a promotional partner!

  • Announcing the Secure360 2010 Conference Pass Scholarship Competition

    The Upper Midwest Security Alliance (UMSA) is proud to announce the first annual Secure360 Conference Pass Scholarship Competition.  Open to all unemployed IT professionals in the Upper Midwest, the goal of this competition is to recognize those individuals whose career has been impacted by the annual Secure360 conference.

  • Howard Schmidt Named Cybersecurity Coordinator

    Secure 360°TM is excited to announce that one of last year's keynote speakers, Howard Schmidt, has been selected by President Obama to be new cybersecurity coordinator for the United States government!

  • CSITS Is Now the Newly Rechristened “Advance IT Minnesota”

    The Center for Strategic IT & Security announces it is now Advance IT Minnesota, a name chosen for its dynamic verbal representation of the mission and work the Center of Excellence performs. The official switch to the new identity will begin 8 December 2009 with the launch of its newly designed web site, AdvanceITmn.org (formerly strategicIT.org).

  • Call for Papers has been Extended!

    There's still time to be a part of this year's conference! Please be aware that we have extended the deadline for speaker proposal submission to January 20, 2010.

    Submission Steps:

       2. Submit up to 5 session abstracts

       3. Receive notice about selection in early February

     

  • Amazing Pre-Conference Line Up for 2010

    Security is becoming more important everyday, so UMSA in conjuction with our member organizations is expanding our offerings with a specialty focused pre-conference line-up.

    Note:  Registration for the full conference is required for most pre-conference events.

    There are several exciting half-day and full-day preconference educational sessions, as well as an (ISC)2 exam, being offered on Monday, May 10, 2010, at the St. Paul River Center.

  • Second Call for Volunteers!

    The Upper Midwest Security Alliance is seeking volunteers for the Secure360ºTM conference to be held May 11-12, 2010.  We're expecting about 550 attendees and 40 talks, which means we need as much help as possible! This is a great opportunity to give back to the security community and interact with many of your industry peers.
